Fall Tour
My great friend and "Wolfpack" member Mark Blake asked me a few months ago if I wanted to see The Who, front row seats, at Fenway Park on Friday night September 13th. "Hell yes!" was the obvious reply and from there I got started planning what became an epic trip of visiting college Lacrosse programs.
Boston University
BU was was still in there 8 hour per week practice mode and was doing 1 hour skill sessions. It was great to catch up with Ryan Polley who has done a marvelous job building this program from scratch. Coach Polley is fired up for this season and feels lie he has great young talent.
The offense was run by Mike Silipo, one of the brightest young lacrosse coaches (and SICK hoop players) out there. Mike was working on the passes, the dodges, the shots and movements of his 'Cuse Motion...

Phi-Lacrosse-ophy Podcast with Richmond Head Coach Dan Chemotti
This is a great listen! Coach Chemotti is a class act, has a history of winning, and when you hear his story and who his mentors are, you will understand why. A product of West Genee and Duke, Dan had coaching stops at Dartmouth, St Johns and Loyola where he was part of the 2012 National championship team. In six years The Spiders have won the league 3 times and been to three NCAA Tournaments!

Why Coaches Education Doesn't Work
Many coaches are un-coachable. I hate to say it, but it's true. Over the years I have spent a ton of time with coaches, talking lacrosse, watching film, drawing up the x's and o's, inviting them to practices.... and they literally never...

"Free Play" Podcast
This week I posted new Phi-Lacrosse-ophy Podcast with Joy of the People Artistic Director and Co-Founder, Ted Kroeten. This is my FAVORITE PODCAST I've ever done because I am so passionate about "Pick up Games," "Sandlot," and "Free Play" and the way Kroeten dives into theories and realities of unstructured play is fascinating and validating. The concepts of "Under -loading", Second Language Learning Theory where acquisition must come before learning, the myths about the best soccer academies in the world and much more!

The Coquitlam Jr Adanacs
Last Sunday night was the end of an era as the Coquitlam Jr Adanacs were bounced from the Minto Cup with a loss to the Victoria Shamrocks and my son Colin played his last Jr A game for one of the great organizations in the history of box lacrosse. Becoming the first US player ever to win a Minto in 2016 and following it up with another national championship last year against the Brampton Excelsiors highlights a five year run in Coquitlam that has been so special. The friends and families,, the teammates, "Wings and Rings" at the "B", the Shack, the Rookie Parties, the shoot arounds, hanging out at outdoor boxes on summer evenings, and living in a true box lacrosse culture has been so special to our son. For my wife and me, we are just so thankful that Colin was able to follow his...

A Summer in Canada
My daughters and I spent the month of June in Niagara on the Lake, (NOTL) Ontario that was truly one of the best experiences a father could ever hope for! I got to play pick up games with my daughters and their friends pretty much every day! This was the second summer that a couple of my buddies and I rented a house in NOTL so our daughters could play girls box lacrosse in St. Catharines, ON and it was the ultimate opportunity for the kids to get better at lacrosse and have an awesome summer!
I purposely gave the girls their space by going them access to my car and working at my buddy Sean Allen's house during...

Summer Recruiting
As spring high school lacrosse transitions to summer recruiting, please remember this: If you are not good enough, there is nothing to talk about! Ask yourself, "How is my son or daughter going to get better this summer?" If your answer is, "he/she is playing a ton of tourneys," you are hitting the nail right on the side!
I encourage all parents to actually count how many touches your kid gets in a game. How many dodges, how many shots, how many times was he/she dodged against. You will be shocked, dismayed, and depressed over how few touches players actually get in...
