Welcome to "A Lacrosse Weekend" my weekly compilation of thoughts, ideas, stories, myths, truths, about the great game of lacrosse. I hope you enjoy it!
If you are a men's or women's lacrosse player, coach, or parent, I think you will love the weekly content, videos, and analysis
The Greatest Play Ever Invented
PLL Chaos Head Coach Andy Towers is one of the best and smartest lacrosse minds in the game and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years. While I’m very much a motion oriented coach, I do think there is room for a change up that can create a great set piece that is dependent on drawing a slide. This 141 top dodging play, called “The AT Look” and what AT himself calls a “41” is as good as it gets, IF you can draw a slide and IF you can master the scripted spacing, reads and ball movement!
Last night Richmond ran this look a couple times against UNC and scored two first half goals!
Jono Zissi, Head Coach of Torrey Pines and who also runs West Coast Starz is one of the top HS and club coaches in the nation and told me this look helped him win the San Diego CIF Championship in 2019
Coaching at Denver I got a lot of mileage in the 4th quarter of games and in overtime running this look as well a sick single invert look!
If you want more info like the AT Look and many more incredible looks, check out,
The Men's Lacrosse Coaches Training Program! There is so much in there you’ll be blown away! Every offense, defense, EMO/END, transition, special situations, and endless drills can be found in the CTP
Also, I'm adding amazing content to the CTP this spring on the Principles Based Offense! Stay tuned!
Check out the video below for a full breakdown of the AT Look!
The JM3 Principles Based Offense for Women’s Lacrosse
For the past year I’ve been writing a lot about the concepts of the JM3 Principles Based Offense (PBO). The PBO is of the Box Lacrosse Paradigm as opposed to the Field Lacrosse Paradigm of play and deserves serious contemplation. Last fall at the Virtual Lacrosse Summit I did a breakdown on how to install the PBO in women's lacrosse and next week at the Virtual Lacrosse Summit 2022 I will be doing a follow up webinar on this offense!
The Field Lacrosse Paradigm is the traditional way men’s and women’s offenses have been taught with an emphasis on sets and dodging to create offensive advantages. Clear space, dodge, draw a double and move the ball or score if they don’t slide. That’s the standard model and while it can work, for many reasons I think it is harder and less effective than the JM3 Principles Based offense which is from the Box Lacrosse Paradigm.
In the Box Lacrosse Paradigm advantages are created through on ball and off ball 2man games combined with ball movement. It is both easier to create an advantage with 2man game than 1v1 and easier to scale the amount of advantages. In 2man game the goal is to get two on one: two defenders on one offensive player or two offensive players attacking one defensive player. Every time there is a 2man game the defense must communicate and if one person switches and one person stays, there will be two defenders on one offensive player!
Furthermore, it is possible to generate three or four 2man actions every 5 seconds! 18-24 on/off ball actions in 30 seconds could yield a large number of advantages depending on how well your team can read the defense. There are so many actions, the defense is bound to make a mistake while you occupy their attention away from help defense.
The amazing thing is, even if the defense plays the pick perfectly, the offense can create an advantage IF she can read the defense correctly. Therefore your upside in the offense is tied to your ability to consistently read the defense.
Watch this 2025 HHH National Team running the JM3 Principles Based Offense from last month at an amazing event called Sandstorm, in Palm Springs, CA. Colleen Magarity and I coached this team of some of the top 9th graders in the nation!
The only preparation for learning this offense was one zoom call, a practice the day before the event and walk throughs before each game! Of course with practice, this team would be a lot better, this is a perfect example of sticking to the principles of passing and picking allows for high level box on the field type play!
I love the way the girls shared the ball, played together, and began learning how to read the defense! Email me if you're interested in learning more about the HHH National Team at

2028 JM3 National
If you want to see an impressive group of 6th grade lacrosse players, check out the video below of our 2028 JM3 National Team which won the championship at Sandstrom last month.
The goal with JM3 National is to provide players and families with an incredible lacrosse experience at destination type events with good competition, great coaching, and an opportunity to play team lacrosse..
I am passionate about Free Play and there's nothing more fun than translating the intangibles you learn from Free Play into a team setting. This 2028 group is one of my latest projects and I’m super excited to see where it goes! Throughout the year I provide training opportunities and film from their JM3 Game-Like practice environments; a couple Sundays in Boston in the fall, three days in Delray Beach Florida in January, and then multiple times during the summer in Narragansett, RI or Boston.
As good as these kids are now, my plan is to help them play the best lacrosse of any group in the nation in terms of their team play on both sides of the ball. Stay tuned and watch these kids develop!
Have a great weekend!
